When Matthew started the Project SEARCH program in 2013, he was very quiet, shy and unsure of himself. When the program was completed, however, Matthew’s DVR counselor commented to me, “Who is that person, and what did you do with the old Matthew?”
Project SEARCH, a school-to-work transition program for young adults with disabilities, helped Matthew to increase his self-esteem, confidence, work skills and social skills… and now he is become a dependable, reliable, valuable employee at Nasonville Dairy!
Project SEARCH also taught Matthew to strive for increased independence in his daily life. He has gone on to pass his driver’s exam, and now has his license and a vehicle to get him back and forth to work each day. He is working on his money management and daily living skills like cooking and laundry, with the hope of moving into his own apartment.
Matthew has truly capitalized on every opportunity he’s been given over the last four years. He’s put forth consistent effort to grow, mature and become an outstanding employee and friend.
Congratulations, Matthew, on your nomination for ODC’s 2017 Personal Achievement Award!
