Dustin has always taken his personal goals seriously.
Example #1: his service to community. Dustin recently joined Marshfield Kiwanis, as the first member with a developmental disability. He volunteers at St. Vincent De Paul every Monday and at UW Marshfield – Wood County once a month. He has sung in his church choir for the past 10 years.
Example #2: his service to employers. Dustin works both at Simplicity Credit Union and at Goodwill. He has excellent attendance, is very professional and hardworking, and goes out of his way to welcome others and get to know his co-workers.
Dustin has come a long way because of his involvement in the ODC facility, but he has been hesitant to give up the two afternoons he is still training there… as he puts it, that’s where his friends are! So ODC’s new CommunityConnect service has worked with Dustin to give him opportunities to see his friends outside of work, whether bowling on Friday afternoons or hanging out at the public library.
Dustin has been his own best advocate when letting ODC staff know what is most important to him as he steps outside his comfort zone. He has taken the steps necessary to land the job, keep the job and become an active member of his community.
Congratulations, Dustin, on your nomination for ODC’s 2016 Personal Achievement Award!
