The men in ODC’s microwave cooking class meet every Wednesday to learn their way around the kitchen. Participants pick out recipes, prepare and, of course, taste their creations. It’s an opportunity for all to become more independent in their daily lives, using a microwave to prepare dishes without too much fuss. Things we sometimes take for granted – like using a can opener, for example – can be new experiences for those who may not have had much exposure to a kitchen in the past.
The taste of this particular recipe, Sunshine Yam Casserole, wasn’t exactly a “hit” with group members – a little too sweet, they said. But they’ll be back at it again next week, ready to try again!
