Responsible for on-site training and support of assigned individuals in community-based jobs and/or work experiences.

Education & Experience

High school diploma or equivalent. At least two (2) years of experience working in restaurant, food service, janitorial, retail, factory setting or other community employment experience. Individual demonstrates experience and understanding of requirements to obtain and maintain employment in a variety of community settings and jobs. A valid driver’s license with good driving record and insured vehicle available for daily use. This position requires pre-employment and annual background checks. This position may be subject to “fit for duty” evaluations.

  • Possess knowledge of physical and mental impairments and effect on vocational and social adjustments.
  • Possess awareness of realistic work expectations regarding quality of work, and appropriate work behaviors.
  • Maintain a professional image while working at community sites. (see Code of Ethics)
  • Train individual(s) at community work (volunteer) sites to perform tasks or parts of tasks as abilities allow.
  • Follow up of employees at Employment sites (when applicable).
  • Break tasks down to achievable components and create “jigs” when applicable to remove the barrier preventing the person from performing the task.
  • Work one-on-one with people with significant needs to develop skills for a work environment.
  • Communicate with employers (volunteer staff) and respond to training needs and/or related problems.
  • Make decisions and work independently.
  • Perform creative problem solving as needs arise for individuals at their work site or in the community.
  • Monitor quality and quantity of work and behaviors of employees at work sites or in the community.
  • Allow individuals to become as independent as possible in all aspects.
  • Provide physical intervention if necessary to respond to client’s actions that could be injurious to others.  Receive training and possess the ability to comprehend and follow through with established procedures and plans.
  • Communicate effectively in person and for record keeping.
  • Observe and record pertinent information and performance of assigned individuals.
  • Evaluate job performance and report on the performance of assigned individuals to make recommendations concerning goals and objectives.
  • Work cooperatively with all people.
  • Work cooperatively with all Employment Staff to maintain and establish job sites and/or volunteer sites.
  • Maintain working relationship with employer and employees at work site and volunteer sites when applicable to foster success and integration for employee.
  • Work a flexible schedule – some evening hours and occasional weekend work (when applicable).
  • Ability to understand, follow, carry out written directions, plans, and procedures.
  • Implement training plans established by case managers and employers.
  • Monitor arrivals, departures, transportation information when applicable.
  • Perform personal care in a discreet, respectful manner (i.e.; toileting, eating, mobility, behaviors). 
  • Possess knowledge of safe ways to assist individuals with transfers.
  • Provide assistance during emergency procedures and take responsibility for getting individuals to a safe area when applicable
  • Learn computer programs.
  • Willingness to complete first aid and CPR training and certification if requested to.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to facilitate, initiate and respond to verbal, written, computerized, telephone and fax communications.  Requires capability to visually see and hear to respond quickly to individuals and situations.
  • Ability to demonstrate, train and/or model job tasks/duties/responsibilities.
  • Ability to visually see and physically perform quality inspection according to ODC’s and/or customer’s requirements.
  • Mobility to access various locations within/outside ODC facilities.
  • Ability to learn and utilize training provided to safely provide personal care including but not limited to lifting, transferring, and feeding (when applicable)
  • Physical ability to prevent individuals from harming themselves, harming others.  This can include becoming involved in a crisis intervention procedure that MAY involve physical intervention and participation by you. Physical ability to complete crisis prevention training, perform procedures and techniques if necessary.
  • Lifting 25 -35 lbs frequently – up to 60 lbs occasionally
  • Beginnings/Prevocational: Must be able to push, carry or lift up to 50 lbs frequently – and up to 100 lbs occasionally.  For wheeled devices, must be able to push up to 250 lbs occasionally.
  • Physical ability to lift, utilize lift devices, support or transfer adults, male/female when assisting with toileting or personal care area such as a shower seat. Weights of individuals will vary, as will personal care approaches and techniques.  Must possess ability to follow training procedures and methods for lifting, supporting, and transferring.   
  • Ability to stoop, stand, pivot, twist, and lift overhead.
