Community Prevocational Training

Take steps toward community employment in a safe, supported small group setting.

  • Learn soft skills - communication, teamwork, problem-solving and professionalism.

  • Participate in internships and/or volunteer at non-profit organizations to explore areas of interest, build a resume, develop work skills and “try out” jobs.

  • Job shadow, tour and attend informational presentations.

  • Learn about the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) services and how to apply.

Beginnings Prevocational Training

With one-to-one training, support and guidance, we will help you overcome hesitations and barriers to work. You will learn and practice the general skills that lead to employment, including:

  • Communicating well with coworkers and supervisors.

  • Dressing for work, and appropriate workplace behavior.

  • Taking instruction and following direction.

  • Problem-solving and staying safe at work.

  • Planning and scheduling transportation.

  • Interviewing and creating high-quality applications/resumes.

Vocational Futures Planning & Support

VFPS begins with “discovery”, an in-depth discussion about your goals, strengths, skills, concerns, barriers and challenges. You will:

  • Complete the “discovery” conversation, and receive personalized Barriers and Assets report giving you specific strategies to help you reach your employment goal.

  • Work with a “resource team” that can include family, friends and others who support you.

  • Explore your need for adaptive workstations, specialized hardware and software, and general workplace accessibility.

  • Work with a Benefits Specialist to determine the effect that income may have on your benefit eligibility and amounts.

  • Participate in career exploration and soft skills training.

  • Receive a referral to the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development’s Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to begin the work search process.
