During the month of January, ODC’s Day Services Travel Club researched New Orleans, Louisiana. They liked what they found so much that they wanted to share what they learned…
Mardi Gras means “Fat Tuesday” in French, but is celebrated from the Twelfth Day of Christmas until the day before Lent. It is known as “Carnival” is other places around the world. Travel Club participants used their new knowledge history, traditions and food to have their own “Mardi Gras” celebration!
The club began working on their parade floats in February; each class or group created a float for the parade that represented their “Krew”. During the celebration, participants read about the history of Mardi Gras, did activities such as Mardi Gras trivia and bingo, experienced some traditional foods, listened to Cajun music and had a parade!
It was a fantastic time, bringing everyone together to experience the exciting Mardi Gras tradition!
