Jason came to ODC in 2009 with the goal of community employment. But like many of the individuals ODC serves, he first had some barriers to overcome. That’s where ODC’s center-based services came in.
For many individuals, lack of confidence and independence make community employment a challenge… Jason was a person who had those struggles. But as he trained at ODC, he developed solid work habits and a willingness to learn. He was able to work more independently and master all of his jobs.
Jason’s “soft skills” needed a boost as well - according to employers, lack of soft skills is one of the most common barriers to success. So Jason joined an ODC CommunityConnect group, where he worked on his communication skills while exploring his community and his job interests.
Jason was ready to find his dream job and, with the support of ODC employment services staff and DVR, he was hired at Gray’s Service auto repair shop in Wisconsin Rapids. His journey was truly a team effort, and is reminder that all of ODC’s services work together to help successes like Jason’s become a reality.
Congratulations, Jason, on your nomination for ODC’s 2017 Personal Achievement Award!
