One of ODC’s employment coordinators knew it was important for her participants to continue to work on their work skills, even though they aren’t at work... the virtual offering of “Skills to Pay the Bills” was born.
The over 20 participants are all funded through the Department of Workforce Development - Division of Vocational Rehabilitation. ODC instructors have worked hard adapting curriculum to teach virtually, as it looks different than an in person classroom. The six week curriculum includes core topics of communication, attitude, teamwork, problem solving, networking and professionalism.
ODC is offering seven different sessions, and all sessions currently have registrations. Sessions are flexible as to accommodate schedules and lifestyles. The first group of participants has just finished their second topic and there is a definite consensus - they are grateful to be able to connect remotely and they are thankful ODC took measures to make this possible.
COVID 19 has brought a lot of uncertainty to every person. Many individuals with disabilities and/or mental health conditions have quickly become isolated with the COVID-19 pandemic. Supports and services that have typically been provided daily, and in-person, have been suspended or provided on a very limited basis. ODC quickly recognized that and remained committed to continuing to engage individuals with disabilities and/or mental health conditions in job readiness, job retention, citizenship, and most importantly safely maintaining “community” during COVID-19.
ODC has many stories of ways that we have adapted during this pandemic. Stay tuned for future stories, as we love sharing them with you!
We need your support more than ever, during this difficult time. Please consider making a gift today!
